How to use Safari extensions: – Darken all web pages

Not many weeks have passed since the release of iOS 15, and recently Apple also released the first major update, 15.1, which among other things Ensures that the promised SharePlay feature is finally there.

As usual, there is a lot of news when Apple updates its mobile operating system, and often a lot of news is hidden a bit from the radar.

It probably didn’t take long for you to notice that the address bar is now at the bottom of your Safari browser, something you can do by the way Go back if you are not satisfied.

But Safari also received support for addition This time around, there are several services that can spice up your surfing experience a degree or two.

How do you use Safari extensions?

do you use Browser Extensions On your computer, you are probably accustomed to downloading them as an add-on to the browser itself.

This doesn’t fully work on iOS – here comes the case that some apps also come with an associated Safari extension, so you have to download the app from the App Store to use the extension.

If you download an app with an associated Safari extension, you can activate it in one of two ways:

• go to the SettingsAnd SafariAnd addition And activate the add-on from there
• Press the aA button in Safari and select Manage Add-ons

Note that the menu option does not appear in Safari until you download an app with a Safari entry.

Example: Noir

To take an example, we bought the app Noir From the App Store (NOK 33). When the download is finished, the mentioned menu will appear in Safari so we can activate the add-on:

After downloading the Safari extension, the “Manage Add-ons” menu option appears.

Here we get the installed add-ons. In our case, it is currently only Noir.

Here we have turned on Noir and vips, then the site is black.

Through the add-on settings, you can fine-tune things. Noir’s default setting is that it darkens web pages if you choose a dark theme in iOS, for example. Furthermore, you also see that by default it won’t touch the website if it has its own “dark mode”, but you can override that. You should also allow the add-on to run everywhere and not just on the website you just opened.

Here are some examples of cool stuff you can download:

super agent (App Store, Free) – Once you download this app, you can open it and choose the type of cookies you want to accept from websites. When the Super Agent is enabled in Safari, it will fill in annoying cookie alert boxes for you based on the preferences you set in a swipe, then you release the extra taps.

An alternative to Super Agent is Hush (App Store, Free), which simply removes these cookie warnings when you visit various websites.

PiPify (App Store, Free) – Allows you to easily and simply play an online video in a separate window that overlaps with other applications. All you have to do after installing it is hit the Power Off button and then PiPifier to turn it on in a separate popup.

keyword search (App Store, Free) – Allows you to create shortcuts to search specific web pages – for example, so you can type I [filmavn] Search for the movie on imdb.com or similar. This, incidentally, was introduced by the Norwegian Arne Martin Aurlien.

Svadelvary (App Store, Free) – With this installed, you can create shortcuts in Safari via so-called gestures, i.e. specific hand movements. By default, gestures are ready to close tabs, change tabs and the like – now we’re drawing a Z to copy the URL of the page we’re looking at so it can be pasted into another app.

Brings! (App Store, Free) – Bring is one of the most popular shopping list apps where you can create different lists and share them with others in the family and the like. With Bring as a Safari extension, you can easily hit a button to add all the ingredients to a recipe you see online – and it also seems to work well for Norwegian recipes.
