The Danish-Norwegian band has a renaissance in 2023.

The band, which had great success in the 1990s with hits such as “Barbie Girl”, “Doctor Jones” and “Turn Back Time”, is back on the world map: they have just been on tour in the USA, and they have been nominated for two Grammy Awards.
The reason, of course, is the huge success of the movie “Barbie.” There, the 1997 hit “Barbie Girl” is the basis for the hit song “Barbie World”, with Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice.
-I didn't know we had so many fans in the United States. “We're completely overwhelmed,” Lynn Nystrom tells People.
Bandmate Rene Dave says people sing along to the songs during concerts in the USA:
– It's been too many years since we've done a concert where we could just put on a microphone, and yet people were singing all the lyrics to all the songs – really loud! He says it's very impressive.
Aqua was founded in 1989 under the name Joyspeed. Later, Norwegian Lene Nystrom joined, and has been a leading figure ever since. The band disbanded in 2001, but reunited in 2007.
Global interest has become huge in the Hollywood adventure “Barbie” in 2023, with Margot Robbie (32 years old) and Ryan Gosling (42 years old) playing the main roles of Barbie and Ken.
For a long time, it was thought that Aqua's ancient killer would not be included in the film.
In August, Nystrom told the British newspaper The Guardian in Aqua initially realized that the “Barbie” filmmakers would rather have something new and modern rather than “Barbie girl.”
– Then he asked us to cooperate. She said it happened very quickly.
“Infuriatingly humble web fan. Writer. Alcohol geek. Passionate explorer. Evil problem solver. Incurable zombie expert.”
