Challenging driving conditions: Traffic accident on the E18

The forecasted foggy weather has arrived, affecting traffic in the morning hours.

Just after 07:00, emergency services responded to a traffic accident on the E18 at Porskrun, near Langengan. A car was thrown and ended up in a barrier.

– The person seems to be unharmed, but there are long queues at the site. The car was blocking both lanes, operations manager Marianne Mark told VG.

The road was closed in both directions at one point.

– How are the driving conditions?

– Driving on the E18 in that area is a bit challenging because of the snow.

Police said the car was towed from the scene at 07.43 hrs and traffic was able to flow again in both directions. According to photos from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, there is still a long queue at the site.

Cyclone “Pia” will hit the country with full force on Thursday. It brings large amounts of snow to western and eastern Norway and strong winds to southwestern Norway.

Snowy and slippery roads

Sara Bendiksen, traffic operator at Vegtrafiksentralen South, is asking motorists to adjust their speed on this busy departure day.

– There may be some snow on some roads and it will be very slippery in some places. That’s why it’s important to drive according to the conditions and hills for extra time, he tells VG.

Bendiksen said all crews are ready and cars are available to continue cleaning the roads.
