Chinese authorities are asking players of the country’s national soccer team to remove any tattoos. They can refuse to play if they do not remove or cover it.
According to the authorities, “it is strictly forbidden to get a new tattoo.” The news agency wrote that those who already have tattoos are being asked to have them removed “to set a good example.” Reuters.
They will also take disciplinary action against national team players if the rules are not complied with.
However, the authorities say that in special circumstances, and if the rest of the team allows it, it is okay to play with tattoos as long as it is covered during training and matches.
And the General Administration of Sports (GAS) stated in a statement, that the ban includes national teams at all levels, as of Tuesday.
– Players in the national team and the national under-23 team are strictly prohibited from getting new tattoos, and those who already have tattoos are advised to remove them, the Chinese authorities wrote.
It is also forbidden to take out tattooed players on national teams below the U20 level.
Tattoos in China are usually viewed with contempt, but are becoming more and more popular among the younger generation.
