Imagine if Harry Kane hadn't won anything this season either.
Last summer, England's biggest football star turned 30 years old. Still without a trophy, he left his beloved Tottenham and traveled as close as he could get to ensuring victory in the best of European football.
Bayern Munich has won eleven league titles in a row. There was no indication that this line would break, but now one can start to wonder. After a dramatic loss at home on Sunday against Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen has a seven-point lead. Bayern also lost the Super Cup final and was eliminated from the German Cup.
What about Harry Kane? . ? Is there a title ghost hanging over the man?
Of course there's nothing wrong with Ken. The England captain has continued to score goals in droves, with 22 goals in 17 league appearances to surpass Robert Lewandowski's Bundesliga record of 41 goals.
Kane ended his Tottenham tenure by breaking Jimmy Greaves' record of 266 goals, and it's debatable which was most impressive last season:
Haaland's 36 goals in the league with defending champion Manchester City, or Kane's 30 goals for a Tottenham team that suffered badly and finished only eighth?
Ken could He had Haaland's place. In the summer of 2021, Pep Guardiola wanted to bring him to City, but Tottenham president Daniel Levy is known to be one of the toughest guys in the business. He was not interested in selling, Kane had three years remaining on his contract and had to continue in London.
The following summer, talk of Kane at City stopped. It was then clear early on that the club had instead brought in a new Norwegian whirlwind of a goalscorer.
Haaland has had massive success, but Pep Guardiola remains a huge fan of Kane. “One of the best strikers I have ever seen,” the City coach declared in February last year, suggesting that his Norwegian striker could learn something from studying the all-round qualities of Harry Kane.
It doesn't take much imagination to assume that Kane believed he too could have won three trophies last season, and that “what Haaland is doing at City, I would have done too.” If so, he will have the backing of the Premier League's all-time top scorer:
“Kane has scored as many goals as Haaland at Manchester City,” Alan Shearer wrote. The athlete Autumn 2022. By then, Haaland had scored three hat-tricks for City, two months into the season. Shearer described City as a “dreamland” for the great striker.
Now it's not so bad to be a striker at Bayern Munich either. Wednesday evening, Keane and co. Bounce back in a pending home match against Union Berlin. Bayern are still the golden favourites, after all.
Leaders Bayer Leverkusen have never won the Bundesliga title and are often called up nivercosin, The club that doesn't win titles.
Neither does Harry Kane at the moment.
And in May, one of them will finally succeed.
- Kane played all 38 league games last season, compared to 35 for Haaland. Kane scored five of his goals from penalties, and Haaland scored seven from the penalty spot.
