Congressional Hearing – A serial killer or a lunatic?

I write “we” with the danger that regular Trump fans will protest in the inbox as usual, but there is no doubt that most Norwegians and Europeans view the Trump phenomenon with shock and disbelief, some also with acknowledgment.

The past few weeks, after the election, have been, if possible, crazier than anyone could have imagined. The commission and witnesses simply cannot agree on whether the president has lost his grip on reality, or whether Trump is a cynical liar who defrauded his voters and attempted to carry out coups.

Nor is it surprising that the rowdy businessman, known to lie, and sue people, has taken the behavior to new heights in a more powerful position as president. But the commission will not be satisfied with proving that Trump lied to prevent a peaceful change of power. It will also document the direct relationship between the Trump camp and the far-right groups Oath Keepers and Proud Boys who led the attack on Congress. A leader of the Proud Boys is known to have called the Oval Office directly and asked to speak to Trump. Three leaders have also admitted in previous trials that the goal was to stop Biden’s inauguration. So far, 70 people have been convicted of the attack.

Will the hearings affect? On others than those who actually thought the worst about Trump? Fox News did not show the first session but turned around and broadcast the second. Sessions have record averages, more than 20 million viewers, and there are twice as many, for example, the NBA Finals and American Idol. The committee naturally wants to reach out to many loyal Trump voters who have so far been unable to act. 66 percent of them believe the big lie about election fraud.

If they are never persuaded that Joe Biden has won the election better and is the legitimate president, they may care that Trump cheated on them for money. After the election, Trump requested money for the Official Election Defense Fund, which was supposed to fund investigations and lawsuits. He earned up to $250 million. But the fund did not exist. Instead, millions went to various causes controlled by Trump and some of his closest associates.
