Danbi Choi received the Participant of the Year award

Rarely has a reality show achieved as much engagement as the first season of “The Game” did. The show, which was the big talk of the spring, averaged 900,000 viewers, all of whom followed the conspiracies, lies and friendships that developed along the way.

This has now led to the second season of the popular show.

One of those who starred in the first season of the viewer's favorite series is Subjekt editor Danbi Choi (30). His brilliant approach to tactical missions has made him a much talked about man – and a firm favorite among the public. And on Monday, it was announced that he is among those who could win Entrant of the Year at the Reality Awards this fall.

The catchment area is huge

-It's very nice, and a great message to receive. As with most things in life, I put my all into “the game.” I played for the audience, and I think people liked me,” he said at the Reality Awards.

Both those who are well-versed in reality television, as well as amateur viewers who only watch “Dagrevyen,” have absorbed Danby’s fascinating personality on television. What makes it have such a large watershed area?

-I think it has to do with the fact that I come across as honest. Don't get me wrong, I lied a lot in “the game” and to other players, but I was always honest with the audience. I've thought a lot about reality show participants who say they have a bad conscience when they stab someone in the back and the like – and my reaction was that it's not trustworthy at all. I didn't do that, I was always very transparent with the audience, which, in the end, is who I played for, he says and continues:

-But obviously I may have made it a little difficult for myself. There, I might seem a bit cold and unengaged with others, but I don't really care if people like me or not. I played within the rules I was given.

Furthermore, he adds that he also believed that viewers might appreciate the drama because he had a bad starting point from the beginning, but eventually won more and more competitions as the series developed.

Not a bad man

– Do you think that some people had a preconceived opinion about you before they saw you on television?

– I think a lot of people know me as a social debater who barks and shouts from before. Maybe it would be good to show myself from another side. Although I entered into a role towards others in the Spilett household, I was always honest with the audience. This was the most important thing to me, since the others in the house were, after all, my competitors, and they had to endure and perhaps be outdone.

After all, a raucous social debate, there's no doubt that both 'The Game' and Danby have struck a chord with the Norwegian audience. This spring, the show also chose a cool gold route for the concept. What was it like participating in a program they knew nothing about?

-It was something I was very grateful to be a part of. A reality show I'm so grateful to be a part of. There are many fellow players to thank here as well, who handled it all in a sporting manner. I also had a lot of fun with many of them – perhaps especially with Victoria (Skau, journ.anm).

Although he was among those who won the admiration of the audience, he had to see himself defeated by Line Andersen (50 years old), who finally managed to remain victorious. It was previously reported that she would share the prize money with both Victoria and Danby. But did he get that money?

– Ha ha! no! But it might have been said in a joking tone, that is. I actually started putting on a show there, but then I made it clear that I wasn't going to take her dirty money, says the Subjekt editor with a twinkle in his eyes.
