(Elbil24): You don’t have to be particularly interested in cars to have a relationship with the DeLorean brand and the DMC-12. This was the car used in the legendary movie trilogy Back to the futureFrom the ’80s and ’90s, it served as a flying machine – taking protagonist Marty McFly from 1985 to 1955, then to 2015, and finally to 1885.
However, the history of the car brand is sad and short. The DMC-12 was the only model ever to go into production, and unlike the car from the movie, it couldn’t travel in time, fly or drive very fast.
Production stopped after 9,200 copies already in 1982, but many cars are actually still on the roads – Even in Norway.
Tesla has good news: New Model S and X coming soon in Norway
DeLorean has been revived
But now new life has finally been breathed into the car brand. Texas based company DeLorean Motor Companywhich has owned the rights to the DeLorean brand since 1995, this spring released the first images of an electric sports car it will soon go into production.
Enthusiasts are pleased that this car also gets the legendary seagull wings, reading not the usual 0-62 spec list, but 0-88 miles per hour. The reason, of course, is that at this speed the car jumped backwards – or forwards – just in time.
flexible performance
And if you’re wondering how fast the new electric sports car can reach that speed, the answer is 4.35 seconds. Acceleration from 0 to 100 should be done in about 3 seconds and top speed stops at 250 kilometers per hour, which puts it in the same category as the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air, two other current American sedans.
It is also comparable in size, measuring five meters in length and 204.4 centimeters in width. When the doors are closed, their height is no more than 137 cm, which is somewhat lower than that of the DMC-12, but according to leader It’s 75cm longer than the car from the movies – which was two-seater.
Under the ground there is a battery pack with a capacity of more than 100 kWh, the range should be 483 kilometers measured by American standards, which should mean about 500 kilometers after wltp standard which we follow in Europe. According to the manufacturer, the car should have a low air resistance of 0.23 Cd, which means good range even at high speed.
Italian design
The design was created by Italdesign, which is based in Turin. It is clearly sporty and may at first glance resemble the advertised one Polestar 5 And the Nine ET7. But the solution to the door is completely different. There are only two wings that cover the front and rear seats on each side.
Incidentally, the DMC-12’s seagulls must have been the inspiration for Tesla when they designed the Model X.
It will be expensive
The DeLorean Alpha5 will be shown publicly for the first time later in August, and the goal is for sales to start in 2024. And what about the price? Pricing is expected to start around $145K, according to Motortrend.com. This means about 1.4 million NOK. And then you have to settle the VAT payment of NOK 900,000, so the price ends up being over NOK 1.6 million.
If the car comes to Norway, think of you.
Elbil24 is following up anyway, and will update with more information when we have it.
