Dennis Hauger chokes the engine before the start: – Big shift in speed

For the first time in 750 days, 21-year-old Dennis Hauger was set to win a Formula 2 main race.

Then he throttled the engine on the starter plate before Formation tour – and had to start from the back of the pit lane instead first place. Formula 2 cars didn't do that Self-start.

– When I released the clutch it stopped immediately. It wasn't about anything else, Huger tells Viaplay.

The victory in Austria on Sunday was very important for Hoger's future.

“I don’t have much to say. I can’t express how angry I am. This was a great opportunity to get back into the tournament again. Now we’ve been eliminated,” Huger continues.

The dream of getting a seat in Formula 1 in 2025 is already out of reach, but this makes it even more difficult.

This was only the second time in his Formula 2 career that Hoger had the best pole position. Therefore, there was great optimism and real hope of victory before Sunday's race.

Dennis Hauger finished 14th after having a good race after a failed start. After time penalties, he finished thirteenth. Brazilian Gabriel Bortoletto won, while Hauger's teammate Franco Colapinto came in second place.

And in a Viaplay broadcast Sunday morning, Hauger's options in 2025 were highlighted:

  • Reserve driver for a Formula 1 team.

“I think we will come to one of these four options,” says manager Harald Huisman.

Dennis Hauger has won one major race and four Formula 2 sprint races in 66 starts. The race's only major win came in Baku on June 12, 2022 – 750 days ago.

The Aurskog man had a strong race on Saturday as he moved from 10th to fifth.
