Liverpool played their last games in the middle of the week in the 2022/23 season, and that means there is little reason for Jurgen Klopp to join the squad for the rest of the season. Thus, the team he put together against Leicester City is a top eleven as of today.
In the match against Brentford last Saturday, the Liverpool manager somewhat surprisingly chose to start with Cody Jacapeau in midfield rather than Jordan Henderson.
This week, Klopp is back in the squad we’ve been used to seeing in recent weeks. Alisson Becker has been self-described among the familiar back-up players consisting of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson. In front of them, Fabinho, Curtis Jones and Jordan Henderson occupy the midfield positions.
In the attack, Mohamed Salah is a banker, and against Leicester City are partners Cody Gakbo and Luis Diaz. Diaz rested against Brentford.
Darwin Nunez is the only freshman absentee with a minor toe injury. Arthur takes his place on the bench.
Leicester City has recovered its captain, Johnny Evans, from a long injury absence, who will try to thwart Liverpool’s attack alongside Ricardo Pereira, Weiss and Castin. Dane Iversen will guard the cage.
Lightning Jamie Vardy leads the way alongside the dangerous Harvey Barnes (12 goals) and James Maddison (10 goals), while Soumare, Ndidi and Tielemans form a solid midfield.
