Emergency services respond to smoke growth at Vemork power station – NRK Vestfold and Telemark – Local news, TV and radio

X/Twitter Emergency services have moved following smoke from the Vemork power station in Rjukan, Tin municipality in the Sør-East police district.

The situation remained unclear for a long time, and a 300-meter safety zone was created near the substations due to smoke.

At 21.10, the fire department brought the scene under control, police said. There is a small explosion at the site, and the 10,000 volt stator is blown.

The Sør-Öst Police Department says this is the cause of the smog.

– There was no fire in the mountains we were worried about. Work is now underway to ventilate the site and safety distances have been lifted, says Osteen Eikedalen, operations manager for the Southeast Police District.

The explosion knocked out electricity in the plant.

Sør-East 110 central informs that no one should be inside the building, and no one should be missing or injured.

A safety distance of 300 meters has been established, but there are no houses in this area.

At 20.11, the police received information about the smoke, and the emergency services quickly arrived at the scene.

The cause of the explosion is currently unknown.

– You have to find the target at a later stage, says the operations manager.

According to the Stor Norske Lexicon, the old Vemork power station has the status of a cultural monument in Norwegian power generation since 1911.

The old station halls today house the Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum. Since July 2015, the power and industrial plants in Rjukan and Notodden have been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
