Fans from all over the world flocked to Stockholm to attend the last concert of Elton John’s farewell tour on Saturday night.
The 76-year-old pop icon has chosen the Swedish capital as the end of more than 50 years of live performances.
Hours before the concert began, people flocked to the Tele2 arena in the south of Stockholm.
– It’s going to be a very emotional night, says Kate Bucaj, a 25-year-old Polish student who says she put her master’s degree on hold to accompany Elton John on his farewell tour.
Jeanie Kincer (50) traveled from Kentucky, USA to attend the concert.
– I wanted to be here and catch the end because I was too young to catch the beginning, she tells AFP.
Elton John has ended his career of more than half a century with a global farewell tour. He played his last concerts in the United States in May, and ended his career in his native Britain with a concert at the Glastonbury Festival in June.
The farewell tour, dubbed “Farewell Yellow Brick Road”, was set to begin in 2018 but was postponed several times due to the coronavirus and the 76-year-old’s hip injury.
When the last song was played in Stockholm on Saturday evening, a total of 6.25 million people attended the farewell concert.
