Flight alert across Ukraine – explosions reported in several cities

Kyiv, Ukraine (Aftenposten): Drones attacked throughout the night. On Thursday morning, several Ukrainian cities were subjected to a missile attack. So far, one person has died and two have been injured in Kyiv.

Kyiv residents used the subway as shelter. On Thursday, too, residents had to seek cover. A number of cruise missiles targeted the Ukrainian capital.

Shortly after midnight on Thursday, the flight alarm sounded again in Kyiv. Russia attacked with 24 Iranian suicide drones. The Ukrainian media wrote that everything should be dropped.

On Thursday morning, the flight warning went off across the country.

It is said that the missiles were fired at several cities. Among others are Kyiv, Odessa and Vinnytsia. Local authorities reported that the air defense shot down the first incoming missiles. There was at least one powerful explosion in the center of Kyiv. In Odessa in the southwest of the country, vital infrastructure was said to have been bombarded with missiles.

According to Reuters, the authorities in Kyiv say that the air defense should have shot down 15 incoming missiles.

– Our air defense system is working, says Yuriy Ignat, spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

But no matter how good the air defense around Kyiv is, some of the missiles get through. The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, is asking residents to stay in shelters. He also reported that there were casualties in the Dnipro region of the city.

Klitschko also reported that one person has been killed and two wounded so far in the attack. This came as a result of missile strikes in the city’s Holosev neighborhood. The deceased is said to be a 55-year-old man.

Yuriy Ignat of the Defense of Ukraine says that many of the missiles were launched from six large bombers (Tu-95) that took off from a base in Murmansk in northern Russia.

Four warnings on Wednesday

On Wednesday, the aircraft alarm sounded four times in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and in a number of other cities. In the evening there were reports of explosions in Dnipro, Zaporizhia and Kherson.

The attacks came on the same day that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky turned 45.

Earlier today, the West fulfilled one of its greatest wishes:

Ukraine will receive advanced tanks. The United States sends 31 Abrams tanks. Norway will also provide the tanks, but it is unclear how many.

The news came on the same day that Germany announced that it would send 14 Leopard 2 tanks.

Directly involved

Russia responds strongly to the decision. Germany’s ambassador to Germany on Wednesday described the decision to send the tanks as “very dangerous”.

On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia believes the United States and Europe are directly involved in the war.

– European countries and the United States constantly make statements that sending various types of weapons, including tanks, in no way means that they are involved in hostilities, Peskov says on Thursday.

– We strongly disagree with this.
