- Casper Ruud – Stefanos Tsitsipas 0-0 (match in progress)
last: The final in Monte Carlo is underway immediately.
– Yesterday was one of the worst we have seen, or the best, says TV 2 commentator Christer Frank before the start of the match.
TV 2 took action
The match was supposed to be broadcast only on TV 2 Play, but the channel is now taking necessary measures.
– We've got tennis fever after Casper Ruud's amazing performance against world number one Novak Djokovic, and we want to share this with as many Norwegians as possible. Therefore, we are very happy to be able to present today's final on our main channel, TV 2 Direkte, as well as on TV 2 Play, says sports editor Vegard Janssen Hagen to his own channel.
Ruud achieved the great achievement on Saturday when he defeated world number one Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. The Norwegian became the first player since 1973 to beat the world number one in the semi-finals in Monte Carlo.
– I'm very happy. This is a day that I will remember for a very long time. I've never beaten Novak and I've never beaten a world number one before. “I'm in shock now,” Rudd said in an interview on TV 2.
Stefanos Tsitsipas awaits in the final.
-It's just a tennis match in the end. Regardless of whether I never manage to win an ATP 1000 title during my career, I know I gave it my all every time, Ruud tells NTB.
Ruud lost to Djokovic in the French Open last year, but he showed a great level:
Sunday's opponent is ranked 12th in the ATP rankings, while Ruud is 10. Regardless of the outcome of the final, the 25-year-old from Snaroja will move up four places.
ATP 1000 is the level below the Grand Slam. The Norwegian won ten titles on the ATP Tour, but none higher than the ATP 250 level. Ruud played three Grand Slam finals, but was unable to win.
The 25-year-old reached the final of the French Open last year but lost to Djokovic. After the match, Ruud's speech after the loss became a topic in Serbia.
