(The newspaper onlineOn Monday morning, Kiwi stores opened with major price cuts on many best-selling books, and Kiwi says the price cuts will continue throughout February.
Here are some discounts:
- Grandiosa Pizza: from 59.90 to 29.90
- Synnøve yellow cheese: from 113.00 to 89.00 per kilogram
- Wheat flour 2 kg: from 25.10 to 19.90
- First price for minced meat: from 54.90 to 44.00
– Unusual offers
There are more than 60 items on the markdown menu.
-This is a slightly out of the ordinary show. They don't have such offers every Monday, so to speak, blogger Rune “Gjerrigknarken” Nicolaisen tells Nettavisen.
He closely monitors price developments in stores and notes many good purchases.
Kiwi has reduced prices on these items:
The new advertising price applies from 1/22 to 2/29.
The price given is the lowest price in the last 30 days 15/1.
– It can be empty
Kiwi has reduced the prices of several best-selling books.
-I think some of the best you can buy here are Grandiosa, wheat flour and top grade ground beef. These are the goods that many of us buy, says Nicolaysen.
– Grandiosa's price is so low that it will probably be empty from time to time. He adds that the offer runs throughout February, so they will be stocking up again.
Only Pizza Grandiosa also has Rema 1000 at the same discounted price. But the Rema price only has a campaign this week, while the Kiwi price is valid until February. When Nettavisen visited the Rema 1000 store in central Trondheim on Monday morning, they did not have time to remove the old price sticker, but the digital price sticker showed 29.90.
On Monday morning, Extra was still selling Grandiosa at 59.90, but at 9:30 Nettavisen confirmed that Extra had also reduced the price of Grandiosa.
Both Rema 1000 and Extra have several price cuts in their special offers this week. But there is a price reduction on a smaller number of items and this week only. Kiwi price cuts apply until February.
That's why New Zealanders are taking action
Rune “Gjerrigknarken” Nicolaisen believes there are several reasons why Kiwi is putting out this price action now.
– Kiwi appears to be making a similar move to what Extra did a few weeks ago. But I think there's a better range of products that Kiwi is lowering prices on, says Nicolaisen.
He believes there may also be another reason why Kiwi is cutting prices now.
– It may also be a response to the fact that the Kiwi has lost several price tests. We can read this in Nettavisen at the latest on the weekend. He says it's clear New Zealanders have to do something.
The New Zealanders deny they are responding to the losses
In Nettavisen's January price test, Kiwi came in last place behind Extra and Rema 1000. Also in Nettavisen's November price test, Kiwi came in last place. Additionally, Kiwi came last in VG's Christmas food swap.
Nettavisen asked Kiwi if the price cuts are now a response to the chain losing several price tests.
– no. We do this because we want to thank our customers for trusting and shopping with us. No one has won more VG food fairs than Kiwi in the last five years, and last year we won three out of four VG food fairs, says communications consultant Nora Helgesen.
– No later than February 1 last year, Kiwi chose the only chain that did not raise prices. We have held all prices for over 10 weeks, and have continued to raise prices throughout the year. In doing so, we have truly shown that Kiwis are the price pushers. This has given us more and more satisfied customers,” she says.
February 1 last year surprised New Zealanders when they left prices unchanged, while everyone expected prices to rise. Rema 1000 and Extra raised prices, but reduced them again the next day.
– As an extra thank you to customers, we've reduced prices by 20 percent or more, on a wide range of bestsellers, through February 29, says Helgesen.
Some price cuts are surprising
Gjerrigknarken believes that choosing discounted goods has a specific profile.
– It may seem as if they have chosen products that suit families with children well. Among other things, they have reduced liver paste and skimmed milk, he says.
Some of the price cuts are quite surprising.
-I also noticed that there are lactose-free and gluten-free products on the menu. “I think this is appreciated because they are almost never offered,” he says.
“Gjerrigknarken” is particularly notable for its display of goods with a good shelf life.
– I usually buy wheat flour once a year. Then I buy on offer before Christmas. Four packages Four packages of 2 kilos. Then I have wheat flour for a whole year.
