Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Sture (AFP) says the new long-term plan is historic and an important signal to both allies and “others”.
Long term plan
Which is agreed upon by all parties in Parliament, applies to the period 2025-2036.– We will spend a lot of money on defense in the coming years, says Ine Eriksen Søreide (H), Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

Be present when the final plan is presented. This includes the long-term plan:
- Strengthen investment in long-range air defense to be able to facilitate the permanent protection of the central-eastern region of the country, including Oslo, which has a large population and important social institutions.
- The Navy will get at least five new frigates with anti-submarine helicopters, new submarines and a unified ship class of up to ten large ships and eighteen smaller ships.
- Take concrete measures to recruit, retain and re-employ sufficient personnel and experience within the structure of the armed forces, and provide adequate incentives to ensure that the armed forces remain an attractive workplace.
- A comprehensive drone strategy for the defense sector must be developed and implemented, with concrete proposals on how the defense sector and various defense branches can adopt drone technology in line with the technological development in this area.
An additional NOK 611 billion will be spent on Norwegian defense over the next 12 years.
Defense Minister Erik Kristofferson was a happy man Tuesday afternoon.
– I am very satisfied that a broad settlement has been reached where all parties stand behind this historic investment in the armed forces. This shows that Norway is bearing the consequences of this dangerous and uncertain time for Europe and the world, Kristoffersen tells VG.
Store: -You should invest more
– It is historic that all parties in Parliament came together unanimously on a new long-term plan for the armed forces, says Jonas Gahr Sture (AFP).
The Prime Minister believes this sends an important signal to allies and others that Norway is united in strengthening the armed forces.
– In times of war in Europe, the worsening security policy situation, and the unpredictability of Russia, we must invest more in our common safety and security.
– The defense settlement will give a boost to Norway's defense capability and increase the predictability of the defense sector, says Defense Minister Björn Arild Gram (SP).
Commander Surid praises the committee for its good work.
– All parties gave and took, and all of them succeeded, says the leader.
Parliament therefore agreed to establish long-range air defenses for central-eastern Norway, as mentioned above.
– It is a very densely populated area, but it is also an area where central social institutions must be protected, says Suride.
In April, the government submitted a proposal for a long-term plan.
