Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson has had a stellar season on loan at Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen and was this week named the club’s Young Player of the Year.
Aberdeen is 42 points behind league leaders Celtic after 34 matches, but in the league with two great teams it is enough to be in third place, and Clarkson’s club is on its way to qualifying to play in Europe next season.
The 21-year-old, who has been with Liverpool FC since the age of six, has gained plenty of experience this season. In total, there were 33 appearances for Aberdeen, and along the way there were also five goals and eight assists from the midfield position.

Clarkson played three matches for the Liverpool first team. He also spent the last season on loan, and then in the championship “Blackburn Rovers”.
The question now is whether the future is with the Reds, whether he will be loaned out again or possibly sold this summer. Aberdeen are unlikely to turn Clarkson down on loan for another season, with Schalke 04 having indicated they want a deal for Sepp van den Berg, but Clarkson is also attracting interest from other clubs.
Football Insider recently wrote that Aberdeen are set to take on giants Celtic and Rangers for Clarkson’s signature this summer.
Clarkson has only one year left on his current contract with Liverpool. He signed it in 2020.
