On June 11, 30-year-old David Cole passed away. A father-of-two lost his life saving his three-year-old son from drowning.
The incident took place on a beach in West Mersey in the British city of Essex, where the family of four was on holiday.
according to BBC The 30-year-old made sure to keep his son’s head above the water. He himself drowned during the heroic deed.
– Absolutely awful
Now his wife, Katie McDonald, pays tribute to the rescue crew from the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI).
The effort was described as “incredible”.
MacDonald, from Hertford in Hertfordshire, was left on the beach with the couple’s one-year-old and they witnessed the tragedy.
– Not being able to do anything and feeling helpless… It was hard. It was so terrible, she told the announcer.
Were it not for the rescue team, she believes her three-year-old son might have lost his life, too.
– They were very good at taking care of the three year old in the water, while also trying to save my girlfriend.
– He’s a hero
Two lifeguards and a person on a paddle board were the first to go overboard to help. The RNLI rescue team arrived minutes later.
The BBC reported that air ambulances were also involved.
– Dave was great. He was the best dad ever. He was like a big kid. All he wanted was to have fun with our kids.
The accused “the dress” was charged with attempted murder
It also pays tribute to the boy’s father, who gave his life to save the three-year-old.
– He’s a hero. A hero in the sense that he put his son before himself – and saved his life praising his wife.
Praise the rescue team
Now McDonald has created a rolling kroner Group website GoFundMe. The funds will go entirely to the RNLI’s rescue service, as well as the children’s ward at Colchester Hospital.
“My friend and my son got into trouble at sea on the beach in West Anchorage. The lifeboat arrived within minutes and did everything it could to save Davy, but unfortunately he was unconscious and died on the beach.
Horror accident: the lawnmower was killed
In memory of Dave, I want to raise money for the RNLI crew from Mersea. I also want to give money to the children’s ward in Colchester. They were absolutely amazing and looked after my family while we mourned the loss of Dave. They’ve also been absolutely wonderful with my three-year-old son,” McDonald’s wrote on their website.
The crew are “very grateful,” says Rick Boreham, an RNLI volunteer.
– The volunteer crew was really touched because a fundraiser was set up. Katie is very welcome to visit our station at any time and you will receive a warm welcome.”
