Heavy rain warning extended – Heavy rain is expected in Oslo tonight

Heavy rain is expected in southern Norway overnight into Friday, and on Wednesday the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain in Achter, Telemark, Vestfold, Buskerud and southern parts of western Norway. Here, rainfall of more than 20 mm per hour is expected in the district.

On Thursday morning, duty meteorologist Elbjørg Moxnes confirmed to NTB that they will extend the danger warning further, and confirmed that the warning will also extend to Oslo. Østfold and Innlandet areas south of Mjøsa may also be covered by the warning, but it is not yet fully known which areas this applies to.

Moxnes says heavy rain is possible overnight into Friday, so it might be wise to take some precautions.

– It's hard to know how bad it will be. Most come at night, when most people are sleeping, so it's a good idea to check that there are places for water to drain and that it hasn't stained the basins, Moxnes suggests.

Rain will taper off Friday morning, Moxnes says, but localized flooding is possible. That's why he's urging Friday morning road users to be careful and follow road signs.

– Allow plenty of time for detours. Moxnes urges not to take any chances by driving into deep water, but instead find another route or stay home.
