Mercedes embarks on a fierce attack with electric cars. They have already introduced a number of new models – soon it will be ready for another one.
He is not just a model. Now they are releasing an SUV version of the flagship EQS, with the not particularly innovative name EQS SUV.
Model sales start today. At the same time, the Norwegian importer just announced the prices. It might not be good news, at least if you’re already concerned about interest rate hikes and electricity price hikes.
A competitor from China?
Pricing for the EQS 450 4MATIC starts at 1,096,000 NOK. The EQS 580 4MATIC, on the other hand, starts at 1,271,000 NOK. The first examples on Norwegian roads are expected in early 2023.
Here we must add that the prices are not surprisingly high. This must be a great model. Thus, it is not surprising that Mercedes outperforms smaller competitors such as the Audi e-tron and BMW iX.
Strictly speaking, only the Hongqi E-HS9 is identical in size. So the question is how many people are going to set these two against each other…
Here we meet the EQS SUV for the first time
2 extra seats
The EQS SUV shares the wheelbase with the EQS luxury sedan, but is 20 cm higher. The second row of seats can be electrically adjusted by up to 130 mm in the longitudinal direction. As a result, the knee space in the second row of seats is now at a comfortable level. By adjusting the second row of seats, the luggage compartment volume can be increased from 645 liters to 880 liters. If the seat row is folded down, the EQS SUV will be able to hold up to 2,100 liters.
A third row of seats with two additional single seats is available as an option. This means that the EQS SUV can carry up to seven people in comfort. Even if all seats were in use, 195 liters of boot space would still be available.
With the third row of seats folded flat into the floor, there is up to 800 liters of luggage space.
Here we are talking about luxury for the whole family
Range 611 km
The EQS SUV has a range of 611 kilometers under the WLTP standard. The battery capacity is 108.4 kWh and battery management software enables cloud-based updates.
The car can be charged at up to 200 kW at fast charging stations, and at up to 22 kW via the powerful onboard charger. A new range of 300 km can be charged in 15 minutes, under ideal conditions.
The curved display unit is designed to appear to float from A-pillar to A-pillar. Beneath a common glass surface are three displays that visually merge into one. The control panels for the automatic climate control system are located in the lower area of the center display, and are permanently displayed so that the driver and front passenger can directly adjust the temperature and ventilation.

Lots of standard equipment
Screens located in the center and in front of the front passenger provide haptic feedback. When a finger touches certain points on the touchscreen, the actuators (eight in the center display, four in the front passenger display) cause a noticeable vibration in the screen glass. The user thus feels pulsations on the smooth surface that give the impression of a mechanical key.
The list of standard equipment is long, with an emphasis on comfort, safety and technology. Among other things, AIRMATIC air suspension is standard, the system is combined with ADS + adaptive dampers, the characteristics of which can vary between each individual wheel.
If higher ground clearance is required, the EQS SUV can be raised by 25 mm.
They developed a “backup jug” for electric cars
You can pull 1800 kg
Inside, there are comfort, power-adjustable seats with memory function at the front, power-adjustable second-row seats and a panoramic sunroof, which are standard. Furthermore, the Driving Assistant Plus Package, Parking Package with 360-degree Camera, Burmester Surround Sound System, Navigation System, Head-up Display and DIGITAL LIGHT are also included.
The EQS SUV can carry a roof load of up to 100 kilograms and can tow a trailer of up to 1,800 kilograms.
