Hovland is looking forward to becoming a member of a very exclusive club this weekend. He could become the fourth player in the past 15 years to win three consecutive PGA Tour tournaments. Hovland won the last two championships last season.
In the last 15 years, only three players have won three PGA Championships in a row. Tiger Woods (2008), Rory McIlroy (2014), Dustin Johnson (2017).
The winner of the Tournament of Champions receives a prize of NOK 37.3 million. There are a total of 207.8 million in the pot this week.
The inaugural tournament will be held in Kapalua on the island of Maui. A little further south is the city of Lahaina, which suffered a large-scale wildfire last year. More than 2,200 buildings were destroyed and dozens of people died.
