Sola was unable to continue the good trend he started the European season with in Malaga last weekend. The Hungarian Motherson became very powerful.
-I think we spoiled the game ourselves. They made a lot of technical fouls and got the counter-goals we talked about earlier. We must have safe shots. We had already agreed that they would take us quickly if we let it. We did it, Camilla Herrem tells RA.
There was an even opening to the match in the Stavanger Sports Hall, and the teams followed each other for the first 15 minutes. Then Motherson got a solid opening. Sola's strong finish in the first half meant that the score was just 13-16 on the scoreboard when the half-time signal came.
Sula goalkeeper Rikki-Marie Granlund made several important saves to keep the yellow jerseys in the game at the start. In contrast, Sulla's stars were more absent.
There weren't many goals for Camila Herrem and Cristina Serum Novak. The duo won World Cup silver with Norway last December, but were unable to make a significant impact in the match. Novak had to come off to receive treatment for the injury about five minutes into the second half. She and Hirim finished with two and four goals, respectively.
The lack of scoring from the stars did not help Sola restore Motherson's lead. Although the performance improved a little midway through the second half, it just didn't work. It can also have consequences down the road.
That Herrem was taken out by Motherson is not at all surprising, as she has been among the best wingers in the world for a number of years. Sola Profile, on the other hand, was surprised by the team's response.
– We did not take advantage of the fact that they were attacking me. We talked about it beforehand, and it was just one of the many things we didn't do as agreed upon, says Hirem.
A two-point loss could make the potential path forward in Europe significantly more difficult. If they qualify via second place, they will face the group winners in the quarter-finals. If the group wins, it will face the team that ranked second.
However, Hirem strongly believes in their ability to change the situation in Hungary. In the past they have beaten Motherson.
-If we stay away from home, we won't be afraid of him here, you say.
Early on Wednesday, the yellow shirts will welcome Follo to a home match in the Rima 1000 League in Assenhalen, before CSM Targu Jeu comes to the Stavanger Sports Hall for another match in Europe.
