The vast majority of students do not try to cheat on exams. However, we cannot rule out that some students will try to cheat using AI tools, says Morten Rosenqvist, director of the Norwegian Education Directorate.

These are the changes
The changes include, among others:
- Increase security and control with random samples before and during the exam
- Fewer aids are allowed
- Closed web and offline dictionaries
- Technical improvements to avoid last year's chaos where many students were unable to log in
On Tuesday, the Education Association, Lecturers' Team, Student Organisation, School Leaders' Association, National Association of Schools and KS met at a meeting at the Directorate of Education where they received information about the recommendations.
The meeting was attended by Peter Andreas Luna, leader of the student organisation. He tells Aftenposten that it is good that this issue is being taken seriously.
– It's about a tool that will make it easier for some students to cheat. He says it is good that some measures are in place to ensure the examination is as fair as possible.
However, the organization is more critical of more random sampling and increased security.
– We are a little afraid that it will cause more pressure if there are tests during the exam. “I think you should try to deal with any suspicions of cheating later,” he says.
He stresses that when there is doubt, it should go in favor of the student.
Bigger changes next year
The directorate also announces major changes from 2025. They wrote in the press release that they will consider several measures, such as removing or changing the aid system and the preparatory part for the written exam.
They are also looking into the possibility of screen monitoring and a secure testnet.
Another possible procedure is for students to complete the test on a school-owned computer, rather than their own personal computer. Then the possibility of downloading unauthorized software is removed.
In the long term, Oder recommends more review for the written exam. It is supported by the student organization.
– We expect big changes. The form of assessment we have today doesn't fit in today's school, Luna says.
