King Frederik (55 years old) and Queen Mary (52 years old) assumed the throne in Denmark more than two months ago, after Queen Margaret (83 years old) announced in her New Year’s speech that she was abdicating the throne.
He reveals: It was a personal gift
Since then, King Frederick has not undertaken many tasks, and he only has 24 working days this year. The royal couple has previously been criticized for prioritizing family vacations in their first months on the throne.
But if there's one thing Frederic understands, it's doing business his way. It has also recently become known that the royal couple is moving many of their state dinners to their private home.
Now it may seem that there will be more changes.
According to communications expert William Atack, the king now wants to create a new relationship between the press and the royal house.
– I think that the Royal House was waiting for the appropriate timing to distance itself from the press. Because Fredrik is not the best communicator – he is good at many other things – but he is not the best at dealing with critical questions asked by the media, as he told the Danish newspaper: my house.
Million deficit
The Danish royal family is no stranger to scandal, and Atack singled out both Herlovsholm and the king's trip to Madrid as examples of issues that the media focused on too much.
– The election is also likely to concern the royal couple and the Royal House who are upset that the media is damaging their reputation. Strategically, you probably don't want to be in similar situations again.
However, not everyone agrees with Atack.
Sebastian Olden-Jørgensen, a historian and expert on the royal house, believes that King Frederik cannot be compared to his mother, Queen Margrethe, because they are completely different people.
It hasn't happened in 17 years
That the press is not being used as much as before is something a royal house expert sees as a good sign.
– When the royal family uses social media, they have the opportunity to reserve the right to serve. If you're like the current king, it's nice to have more control, and they've gained that through their extensive social media presence.
