Kristiansund – NRK Møre og Romsdal – Local news, TV and radio performing lifesaving first aid after a diving accident

Just before 12pm on Friday, police in Møre og Romsdal said a man had been taken to Kristiansund by boat after a diving accident.

Per Åge Ferstad, head of operations for the Møre and Romsdal police district, says he was alerted to the accident by another person who was diving in the area. He was part of a group.

– News that one of the diving crew was unconscious. Ferstadt says he was found lifeless on the surface of the water.

The person who died in the accident was a 60-year-old Finnish citizen. Police wrote that the next of kin were notified just before 10 p.m.

Emergency services rushed to an industrial area in Kristiansund, where the injured man was taken ashore.

Start with CPR

After the crash, others in the crew got the man into the boat and immediately began CPR, Ferstad told police. They then drove in the direction of Kristiansund, where they landed the man.

– Paramedics carried out life-saving work there, Ferstad told NRK at 12.00.

Both an ambulance and an air ambulance were ready at the scene when the divers came ashore.

Those involved are foreign nationals.

It is not yet clear what caused the accident.

– At present we know very little. The rest of the group was taken to the police station for questioning. “We will get more information about what happened later,” says Paul Strömsholm Greger, the police’s incident leader.
