– The cold and unstable summer climate in large parts of Norway has contributed to high demand when it comes to the remaining destinations. Also, travel giant TUI reported a 30 percent increase in bookings in July.

– In eastern Norway we had real summer heat in May, and in June the weather is relatively cool and with a lot of rain. So it's no surprise that the desire to travel to sun and warmth has completely faded in the past two weeks, says TUI Norway's communications manager Anne Mørk-Løwengreen in a press release.

Bookings with departures in June are up 25 percent compared to the same period last year.

– There is a real desire for places remaining until June. Also, many people are booking their July holidays now. Bookings have increased by around 30 per cent when it comes to holidays in the first two weeks of July. There is a very late market this summer, where many people book their trips with a very short time horizon, and many people seem to see the weather here at home, says Mørk-Løwengreen.

Many seem to have hoped for a nice and cheap summer at home, but gave up after the weather turned rainy and dreary.

– More people seem to let price control their choice of travel destination, and more people choose countries like Turkey, Bulgaria and Albania where you can get a cheap holiday. However, Greece and Spain are the most popular countries to travel to, says Mørk-Løwengreen.

According to the communications manager, there are two main trends in which hotels Norwegians choose. Bestsellers are all-inclusive concept hotels with high standards.

– In addition, slightly more affordable apartment hotels are very popular, so there is no doubt that price is extra important for many people this summer, says Mørk-Løwengreen.
