Microsoft invites you to something special

On September 21, Microsoft invites you to a very special press conference in New York.

September and October are the surface months. In other words, there will almost certainly be new machines in the series of brands that will be shown.

The rumored devices are the Surface Go 4, Surface Laptop Studio 2, and Surface Laptop Go 3. The Laptop Studio 2 is an internal upgrade with the latest Intel CPUs, a more powerful GPU, and more ports. Surface Go 4 has also been upgraded with faster Intel chips. It’s also conceivable that Microsoft will introduce new accessories in the Surface series now that it has canceled Microsoft’s mouse and keyboard after 40 years.

There’s a lot to like about the Surface Laptop Studio, but the fact that it’s so expensive and only comes with 11th Gen Intel and battery life that could be better keeps it from reaching the top tier.

We are of course hoping for more than hangover upgrades since this is referred to as a “special event”. Maybe we’ll also hear something about the next major update for Windows 11. Maybe we’ll hear something about Windows 12? It would have been more fun. In any case, we’re hoping the company has room up its sleeve in the form of a brand-new machine, or a major upgrade to one or more of them.
