His former classmate, Bridget Everett, confirmed the death in tribute via her Instagram account.
“It is with great sadness that the family of Michael J. Hagerty announced his passing yesterday in Los Angeles,” the actor wrote, according to the website.
In addition to a longer text, she also shared a number of photos with the “Friends” star.
I loved Mike from the moment I met him. It was very special. Cozy, funny, I’ve never met a stranger. We broke this demise. Mike was loved by the cast and crew of Someone Somewhere. “Our thoughts go to his wife and family,” Everett wrote in the tribute.
Hagerty is perhaps best known for his recurring role as the employer of “Mr. Treeger” on the series “Friends”.
Most recently, he starred in “Somebody Somewhere” on HBO where he can play Everett’s father on screen.
Hagerty leaves behind his wife, Mary Catherine, his sister, Mary Ann, his sister-in-law Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter, Meg.
