Before Friday's match, Tromsø had won back-to-back against Molde. Last season they won 4-1 away and 1-0 at Paris North.
The last time Molde got away with a win was in October 2022 when they won 1-0 away at the stadium then called Alfheim.
Christian Eriksen sent Molde in front with a brilliant counter-attack, before Matthias Fjortoft-Lövik sealed the title with a stunning goal.
Molde thus rose to third place, six points behind league leaders Bodo/Glimt. Tromsø remain in 14th place and are locked in a tough battle to avoid relegation after a nightmare start to the season.
– Adorably arrogant
After an evenly contested first half-hour, it was Molde who took the lead when Christian Eriksen pulled himself into the box and slotted the ball into the far corner.
“I'm satisfied that we're progressing and keeping a clean sheet, but then we also have some things to correct,” Eriksen told Channel 2 during the break.
Midway through the second half, things got worse for Tromsø when Mattias Fjortoft followed up Lovik with a brilliant solo run, before firing the ball over Jacob Hojgaard and into the net.
-It's a huge solo raid. She's delightfully smug. “It's a result for the history books,” exclaimed TV 2 commentator Endre Olav Osnes.
In extra time, Erik Hystad almost imitated his teammate Elivel's solo attack, but unfortunately for the Moldensee player, this time the ball hit the post and went out.
Injury nightmare
Molde had to manage without Fredrik Gulbrandsen, who suffered another injury. The striker was also injured in the first league match of the year and then missed four matches in the Elite League. Later, he made seven series appearances and three cup matches, before having to take a break again.
In Gulbrandsen's absence, Christian Eriksen and Magnus Wolff Eikrem started up front for Molde.
The Blues' injury list also got a longer name after just three minutes when Anders Hagelskjær went down on his ankle and had to be substituted. Before that, stars like Kristoffer Haugen and Veton Berisha also went off.
