The discovery of coins in Rhode Island, in the United States, has stunned scientists. This discovery is new evidence of the presence of pirates in the American colonies in the seventeenth century. Parts of the United States at that time were colonized by Great Britain.

According to historians, in 1695, Everyman and his fellow pirates allegedly tortured and killed male passengers on an Indian ship during a pilgrimage. It was also said that many women were raped.
It was alleged that the pirates then robbed the passengers before continuing on to the Bahamas. The coin just found is said to be the same coin that everyone on the ship stole.
The most important discovery in 100 years
Bailey calls the evidence “overwhelming and indisputable”. 26 similar coins had been found previously, most of which were found in New England. None of the coins can be dated after the looting of the Indian ship.
Crimes on board in 1695 meant that the British King William III set a large reward for the capture of the pirates.
“There’s no way he’d be in the Bahamas sitting on the beach getting a tan while he waited to be caught,” says Bailey of Every.
The historian says that each one went to New England after being in the Bahamas. It is said that he spent a month on the run in the colonies. While there, he is said to have considered the options of starting a new life in the colonies, or returning to Ireland. Each eventually ended up choosing the latter.
