“Fortunately, I was the one who got the job,” he says with a big smile.
Jarle Skjennem was favored out of 60 applicants who wanted a car salesman position at Brennes Auto.
– We wanted an established car seller from Sarpsborg. Jarl is a nice guy and will fit in well with the environment here with us,” says sales manager Raymond Rogenli, who was heavily involved in the recruitment process.
From group to family business
Skjennem comes from a car salesman position at Sulland car dealer, where he started selling new cars seven years ago. For the past four years, he has worked selling used cars.
“The years were educational and it was an exciting journey I was a part of,” he says.
He says that Soland is a large group-run company, and that he is now looking forward to working in a family business where the distance between top management and employees is very close.
Aim for at least 200 cars
During his time at Soland, he sold about 120 cars a year. At Brennes Auto, he has to step it up a few notches if he wants to keep up with the numbers other vendors can offer.
-He explains that the seller here at home probably passes through 200 cars sold a year.
Brennes Auto is an agent for Nissan, Mazda and Hyundai car brands. Skjennem will have a greater focus on selling Hyundai cars and used cars.
Four cars on test drive
The start in Berenice was last Monday. It's been a while so far to get to know the company's products and computer systems.
To date, he has not sold any cars with his new employer.
– He says: – I took four cars out for test drives.
Skjennem has great faith that his first Brennes car sale is among potential customers who have now tested the car.
Personal relationships
In car sales, a lot has to do with the personal relationships between the car salesman and the customer.
Of course, the make and model of the car are not dependent, but there are many people who choose to follow car salesmen to their new workplace when they need a new car.
“I have already received inquiries from previous customers who say they will come here next time they need a new car,” says the car salesman.
Jarle Skjennem previously worked in advertising sales at Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad, and in his time helped set up Bil & Trafikk magazine.
