Oberstdorf (Dagbladet): Polish skier Dawid Kubacki finished 27th in Oberstdorf on Friday.
The first round in Hoppuka didn't ease it. Because the season was difficult. And not least the whole year.
In March, he had to leave the flying ski slope in Vikersund in a hurry. The reason: His wife, Marta, was hovering between life and death as a result of heart problems.
Later there were reports that it was moving in the right direction. But how does it stand today? The couple has two children.
Dagbladet caught up with Kubacki after the race in Oberstdorf on Friday evening:
– Yes, it was dramatic, he says about the exit from Vikersund.
– But at this moment the situation is completely stable. I'm in the ground. This is the best indicator. I can still train. I can still compete. The wife is fine and is at home with the children. Everything is on the right track. Thanks.
Shock: – That's it
He adds:
– It may not be perfect, but that's okay. If things don't go well, I'll stay home. He repeats that this is the best indicator.
No one knows why the veteran left the flying ski slope in Vikersund in March. He mentioned “special reasons.”
The next day, he told the world himself on Instagram:
My wife, Marta, was hospitalized due to heart problems. She is in bad condition and fighting for her life. “Of course I'm done with the season,” he wrote.
Until the end, he fought with Halvor Egner Granerud for the overall victory in the World Cup.
Rumors arose
Hoppuka now moves to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In Germany, there is jumping fever after local hero Andreas Fellinger won in Oberstdorf.
Kubacki is 23rd in the World Cup.
– It was a difficult season from the beginning. The whole team suffered. But we are trying to get through it, so we can jump well again, he told Dagbladet.
