There are many indications that things are not going exactly as planned by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Maj. Gen. Girillo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s military intelligence (GUR), believes there are still ways to fight Russia until the beginning of this year, but the invasion is already a strategic defeat for Putin.
– Putin is at a dead end. He cannot stop or win the war. For objective reasons he cannot win. To prevent that, he must admit that he is not the big and strong government he wanted to make Russia appear, Budanov told the Wall Street Journal.
Putin’s explanation to the Russian people that he could not capture Ukraine will have repercussions, says the intelligence chief.
– When they finally realize that the Tsar is not as great and powerful as he pretends, he says it is a step towards the destruction of the Russian state as we know it today.
Budanov says intelligence has a network of agents in Russia and that they work closely with US intelligence.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, Putin rejected the advice of his closest advisers on the February 24 invasion of Ukraine.
– I am surprised by the Russian nonsense. Of all the options Putin had before the war began, he chose the most brutal and worst, he says.
