The skating world was stunned when it became known at the end of April that Olsson, considered by many to be one of the best skaters in the world, would not be allowed to continue on the Swedish national skating team.
Northug, who won 13 World Cup gold medals and two Olympic gold medals, had Olson as his personal coach. He was very surprised by the shooting.

Olsson worked with the Norwegian national team between 2003 and 2020. At one point, Northug was one of the best skaters in the world. Northug says the Swede meant a lot to his success.
