Norway U-21 Football | The Under-21 national team player impressed during training at a major French club

Al-Janoubi has spent the past two weeks in training at French club Monaco. Here, Daland must have done his job very well.

Coach impressed

The club’s coach, Philippe Clement, and sporting director, Paul Mitchell, are said to have been impressed by what the 22-year-old showed during the training session.

“It was a lot of fun and got good feedback,” Daland told Nettavisen, who was not intimidated by the French club’s senior level.

Monaco is a big club aiming to play in the Champions League. It’s a small step forward, but I have a pretty good day-to-day life the way it is now.

Daland plays every day for Belgian club Cercle Brugge. This is also how this training residency came about. Monaco and Cercle Brugge have the same owner and so it is very common for clubs to sign players from each other. This summer, the French club borrowed goalkeeper Thomas Didilon from Cercle Brugge, while Radoslav Majecki went the other way on loan.

Earlier this week, Ben Lamprecht, CEO of Cercle Brugge, was nominated as CEO of Monaco.

– I don’t know how much I can say

Despite the fact that he impressed during his training period, there is little to suggest there will actually be a transfer in January, although he was somewhat vague in his answer.

– I don’t know how much I can say. It’s a bit strange season compared to the water cycle. I’m just focused on finishing the season here as well as possible and then we’ll see what happens next. Like I said, I don’t stress about anything and feel comfortable at Cercle Brugge. I play in most of it and we did well and have a lot to play for. Obviously one day you hope to take it one step further, but for now I’m not stressing too much about it.

The centre-back joined the Belgian club from IK Start last summer for over NOK 10 million. Since the transfer, he has managed to play 50 matches for the club.

After a great first season for the Norwegian player, in which he played 33 matches, scored two goals and provided two assists, he started this year’s season on the bench after training. Dominic Talhammer thinks he didn’t defend well. When Thalhammer was fired, he quickly returned to the starting line-up under the new coach, Myron Muslik.

The 22-year-old was also part of the Under-21 national team that qualified for next year’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Romania and Georgia. There they ended up in a tough group and will play Italy, France and Switzerland.

– It’s something we’ve been fighting for for a long time and it’s very interesting. It’s a big tournament I’m looking forward to, says the centre-back for the next tournament.

Daland and Cercle Brugge are currently eighth in the series, but they have the same number of points as Oud-Heverlee Leuven – the team that reached the last place in the Europa League qualifying round.
