Lars Buhenen finished coaching Sarpsborg after the season – which means he won’t be able to extend his contract.
The timing is not optimal, I have no problem admitting that, because we are in a stressful situation at a crucial stage of the season. It would have been better to work in peace and quiet with the same focus, there is always the risk that a decision like this could have a negative impact on the playgroup, Buhenen tells VG.
The Østfold Club announces the decision in a press release. Bohinen took over Sarpsborg after Swede Mikael Stahry after four consecutive rounds. Stahre took charge of IFK Gothenburg in his home country, while Bohinen was available on the training market after being sent off in Aalesund during the record-breaking 2020 Sunnmøringen season.

– It’s the right decision, that. We agreed that this was the best solution, says Bohenen on ways to separate from East Foldings, who announced the decision at the players’ meeting ahead of Monday’s training.
Although “fortunately there were no stormy cheers”, it was calm in the locker room and Buhenen admits it will be tough to work on the class for the rest of the season.

The important thing now is to keep the team together and focused, and we all go in the same direction in the last eight games. “We must not allow this to be a distraction or an excuse for things to be the way they are,” Buhenen says.
“Following an agreed and planned evaluation meeting, Sarpsborg 08 and Lars Buhenen have agreed that the latter will not continue as the club’s head coach next season,” the press release read.
Lars Buhenen’s competence and experience were the right match for Sarpsborg 08 in the transitional period before the appointment of a permanent coach. In a short time, the club has brought in a hardworking and enthusiastic coach who knows Norwegian football and Sarpsborg 08 well, says club president Hans-Peter Arnesen in Sarpsborg.
