Police on the Spanish island of Mallorca arrested a Spanish citizen after he tried to steal a newborn from a hospital in Palma de Mallorca.
According to the Mallorcan newspaper Ultima Hora The 49-year-old was admitted to Son Latzer Hospital early in the morning of Monday, July 10.

The 49-year-old is said to have burst into a room and shouted, “I’m a cop. This kid’s mine. Give him to me,” according to the newspaper.
In the room there was a woman and her mother – and a newborn baby.
Reportedly, the man showed his mobile phone as if it was a police ID, writes Ultima Hora.
The oldest woman, the child’s grandmother, is said to have tried to mediate with the man, before the three locked themselves in the toilet.
“When the man left the room to speak to the health workers, the child’s grandmother took the opportunity to raise the alarm. The hospital security service was notified and the man was arrested until the police arrived.”
Transfer to psychiatry
According to police sources, the man parked his car in a handicapped parking lot just outside the hospital, so that he could get away quickly if he managed to kidnap an infant.

“I just wanted to grab someone and get out of there,” the 49-year-old reportedly told police.
Ultima Hora writes that the man has now been taken to a psychiatric department for examination.
