The mood on Wall Street shifted on Thursday, following yesterday's positive inflation numbers and new highs for leading indexes.
Industrial heavyweight Dow Jones fell 0.10 percent to 39,869.38 points. The Standard & Poor's 500 index closed down 0.21 percent to 5,297.12 points, and the Nasdaq technology index fell 0.26 percent to 16,698.32 points.
Shortly after trading began on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Index reached a new high of 40,000 points. It didn't last long, and the Dow Jones index turned from green to red just before closing time.
The yield on ten-year US government bonds is 4.381 percent. The VIX, also called the fear index, fell 0.08 percent to 12.44.
New record
American chain giant Walmart It rose to record levels on Thursday, rising 6.97 percent to $64, after the company delivered strong quarterly numbers. The company beat Wall Street expectations for earnings and revenue, and management said it expects to achieve slightly above its previous guidance for the full year.
The previous record was set on March 21, 2024, when the stock closed at $61.45.

As for Magnificent Seven shares, it's a mixed ending.
Today's winners include Apple, which rose 0.08 percent to $189.97, and Alphabet, which rose 0.93 percent to $174.11. Tesla shares also rose 0.51 percent to $174.87.
Microsoft shares fell 0.51 percent to $420.93, and Amazon shares fell 1.29 percent to $183.60. Nvidia shares closed down 0.30 percent at $943.46. Meta fell 1.74% to $473.15.
Oil and cryptography
The price of Brent crude from the North Sea rose 0.48 percent to $83.24 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 0.85 percent to 79.30 percent.
Bitcoin fell 0.09 percent to $65,113. Ethereum fell further, by 2.78% to $2,937.40.
