The price war on food continues. – We do it not because we can afford it, but because we have to, says Coop Norge’s director of communications to VG.
Rima 1000 and Cobb Extra are turning around: On Thursday afternoon, the two grocery chains returned their prices to what they were before the February 1 price jump.
It happens two days after that Kiwi prices closed on a range of products.
Competition in the Norwegian grocer is fierce, as Rema 1000 Norge wrote in a press release:
– But our basic philosophy is that we must have the lowest prices or we will be closed. It’s going to cost, but we’ll bear that cost, so we can deliver on our customer promise,” says managing director Tom Christiansen.
At the same time, Coop Extra cuts the prices of 4,000 items. This was confirmed by Coop Norge’s Director of Communications, Bjørn Takle Friis, to VG.
– We have adjusted the prices to what they were before February 1, in order to enjoy the competition. Customers can be confident that shopping at Coop Extra is cheaper, possibly even cheaper, than it is with our competitors, he says.
We do it not because we can afford it, but because we have to. We have to be competitive so we don’t lose customers — and we certainly can’t afford to, he says.
