– A discovery of what appears to be the remains of a human has been made in Lake Savalen, north of Østerdalen.
This was informed in a press release of the Inland Police District on Wednesday. The discovery was reported to the police on Tuesday evening.
– The discovery was made by researchers who used an underwater drone and reported the discovery of human remains to the police. Police went to the scene and watched the video, and we agree with investigators that it looks like human remains, says police attorney Hildegen Transli.
Savalen is located in the municipalities of Tynset and Alvdal.
– We will soon be on site together with divers from the Gjøvik fire brigade. At the moment we have no information, says Dagbladet's police lawyer.
Divers from the Gjøvik Fire Service will recover the remains on Wednesday morning. The remains lie at a depth of about 25 meters. Krypos' identity committee was notified.
The remains will be taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine. Police expect it to take several weeks to get answers from the investigation.
– Cases of missing persons will be investigated. For now, the discovery cannot be linked to a specific case. How long the remains were in the water, there's no telling at this time, Transley said.
