A panel looked at patients admitted to hospitals with unresolved conditions, and how specialized departments examining these patients interact.
the report Written by the Norwegian Commission of Inquiry into the Health and Welfare Service (Ukom).
In it, they highlight two important factors when patients with an unexplained condition are admitted to hospital for examination. One is the interaction between different departments and specialties around the patient. The second is the involvement and care of the patient and relatives during hospitalization.
The report points out several points that can contribute to learning and improvement, including that patients and relatives should be better involved. However, it must happen in a systematic way, writes Ukom.
A time and space for interdisciplinary collaboration must be established. The researchers add that direct contact between many different disciplines and occupational groups provides opportunities for a more comprehensive, efficient and rigorous study.
