Review: “Every Time We Meet” on TV 2

television: “Every Time We Meet” always concludes the season with duets and a little recap. It's been a season filled with many good interpretations of the seven artists' songs and a good dose of “sipping” as well. Watch out for gossip and a lot of bragging tonight!

As usual, we constantly review the songs.

Ramon and Emily: “God will not leave me” (Highasakite / Kåre Chr. Vestrheim)

Both Ramon and Emily are big fans of Highasakite's music, and they chose – initially – a rather dramatic song from what Ingrid calls a “fate album”, 2016's “Camp Echo”.

The song was translated into Norwegian and was titled “Oh God Be Nice”. The two know each other well and have voices that go well together, but have never sung together in anything other than a school context. Unfortunately, there is a little “drink” about this performance and a lot of emotion from both. It lacks the refinement of the original Highasakite and becomes a bit rubbery and overly 'pretty'.

Ingrid and Mary: “I Love You” (Emily Hollow)

A little livelier now. Emily wrote this song when she was 12 years old. And that's when it all started. She was “the little Norwegian Mozart,” according to Ingrid.

“It doesn't matter,” Emily says, but “I love you” is well captured by Ingrid and Mary. Although Emily is not proud of this song and finds it difficult to keep it serious, Ingrid and Mary take the song seriously. They've come a long way in “memorizing” it, and are good proof that most songs – and lyrics – can be memorized if sung in good voices. Emily was lucky there tonight.

Emily and Odin: “Love Me” (Ramon/Andreas Bach-Weg)

Increase in the program! Emily and Odin processed and rewrote Ramone's song. They do it with enthusiasm.

Here too it goes slowly, in keeping with the original, but there is a completely different empathy and 'feeling' in the performance. The song fits perfectly with the duet and gains with it a dimension that raises it to another field. This is the most “normal” thing Odin has done this season, on the last show. Credit him for it, but one of the best things about this year's season is catching all his weird musical acts every Saturday.

Mary and Matoma: “Mutuza Dahton” (Mary Bowen)

“Mottoza Dáhtun” or “Give Me A Break” was written for Marie's eldest son in the 1990s. Who would have imagined Mary Bowen collaborating with EDM star Matuma?

Not this guy, but anything is possible. What's extra nice is that it's particularly successful, all prejudices aside. Mary starts out gently, as she usually does, and builds up. It turns out that she and Matoma are a good match, mostly because Matoma lets Mary get the lead role. – Now you know what a real “sausage” is, says Matoma.

Ingrid and Ramon: “Funny Rain” (Lars Såby Christensen / Øyvind Staffelland)

The choice of this little-known song, which Vamp recorded at a fantastic event in 2017 with Odin on vocals, is excellent – also because Ingrid rarely sings in Norwegian. But – she's on very safe tracks tonight. “Det roliga regnen” is well suited as a duet, but is not fully utilized here as there are mostly two long solo parts and little accompaniment (35 of the 282 seconds of the song, to be precise). But it's cute, and Lars Sabé Christensen's script is a little gem.

Auden and William: “The heart is too big” (Matoma et al)

– Now it's the party, says Matoma after he belted out a country-inspired version of “Heart So Big.”

Odin and William are quite far apart musically, but here they come together well. “Very Big Heart” – in Norwegian – is simply a great tribute to a man who has his heart outside the suit, as Odin says, and who dares to show emotion. William sings softly and with restraint as deeply and darkly as he can, while Odin contributes beautiful vocals. But it wouldn't be Odin without a little surprise on the filling, perhaps inspired by the “noise sequence” in Wilco's “Via Chicago” (nerd!).

A wonderful end to a season that should be described as successful. Only TV 2 knows if there will be a new season next year. Thanks for following along for those of you who have been reading!
