The Sanitary Association in Langfjorden opened a house so that I could spend the night here. That is redemption. I had a nice and warm night here. The alternative is to sleep in the car. He says he is happy to escape from it.

Guttormsen has no problem coming home late. But he misses the job interview.

– I was actually going to a job interview at 11 o'clock. But I couldn't do it. Fortunately, the employer agreed to take it up in batches. Now I hope the road will be opened soon for me to go home, he says.

– Waiting for the road to open

Since Wednesday morning, many people have been without electricity in Masi and Nordkapp municipalities due to the storm.

Ingar Hermansson at Aria Net Aus tells NRK that most of the subscriptions at Rolfzoya and Ingoya now receive electricity.

When electricity is available to subscribers in Nordkapp, it will take some time to install.

– We tried to fix the error on Wednesday, but the fitters had to turn back because the weather was so bad. It is not wise to continue. We will make another attempt when the weather clears up. The problem is getting the equipment, Hermanson says.

– We are now waiting for the avalanche-covered road to be reopened so that we can transport an aggregate to Skarswäck, Hermansen says.

Hermanson says Area Net As is doing everything it can to fix the fault so residents can get power back.

– Critical shutdown

Many of the closed roads will not reopen until 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. today. Contractors will carry out fresh assessment.

According to Bente Nyland at the Norwegian Road Transport Center, the closure of the entry road to Finnmark is critical.

Meanwhile, there is a detour from Skibotn via Finland via E8 and Kautokeino via E45.

This means that the journey between Alta and Tromsø is 544 kilometers long instead of 295 kilometers.

– New assessment will be done today at 12 noon, within Hammerfest on National Highway 94. This area is very closed during this winter. It's just challenging weather, says Bente Nyland.

Hammerfest, home to the hospital for western Finland, has been under quarantine since Tuesday due to several landslides.

Unwilling love

In Skarsvåg, several fishing boats are anchored, usually connected to shore power. They could not achieve this due to power cut.

However, according to Roger Hansen, this is not a problem.

– Most new boats have generators that supply 220 volts of electricity. “I've never heard of any fishermen struggling without power in their boats because of power outages,” says Hansen.

But there is one thing that led to the blackout:

– I reckon there were many involuntary romantic dinners with candles in Skarsvåg on Valentine's Day, he laughs.
