Russia intensified its offensive in eastern Ukraine – NRK Urix – Foreign news and documentaries

In recent weeks, Russia, in line with its new tactics, has increased pressure in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine.

The situation in Donbass is very difficult. As in previous days, the Russian army is trying to attack the Soviets and Severodonetsk.

This is what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a speech on Saturday evening. However, he claims that the Ukrainian forces managed to prevent the advance of Russia.

according to British intelligence Sievjerodonetsk is one of Russia’s no. tactical priorities. Sievjerodonetsk is the second largest city in Luhansk Oblast.

Attack from four different directions

Geir Hågen Karlsen is a presenter, colonel and director at the Norwegian Defense College. He points out that Russia has been attacking the eastern part of the Donbass region for more than four weeks.

There has been very little progress in the four weeks, and forces in the region are concentrated all the way east around the cities of Sevgerodonetsk and Slovyansk, says Carlsen.

– They may try to cut off the cities, but they are still far from successful.

The governor of Luhansk also reported that the Russian forces did not come close to invading Severodonetsk. This is despite the fact that they have attacks from “four different directions,” writes Watchman.

It is said that Russia has deployed its “Terminator” tanks in the Severodonetsk region. The battalion, the only one with this type of tank, suffered heavy losses as it failed to conquer Kyiv at the beginning of the war.

– With a maximum of ten “Terminator” tanks deployed, they are unlikely to have any effect, British intelligence wrote.

Russian-backed separatists have controlled parts of Donetsk and Luhansk provinces in the Donbass region since 2014. The goal now is to occupy the rest of Donbass.

Next Slovenian goal

According to the Ukrainian military, Russia is also preparing to resume the offensive in the city of Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast.

On Sunday, they reported that Russia was going to bomb the villages of Viropilia, Debrevne and Duvinc – as part of the goal of controlling Slovenia.

I ei Update on Telegram On Sunday, the country’s emergency authorities wrote that the attack intensified in all settlements in Luhansk.

– It is impossible to determine the exact number of dead, because during a continuous fire it is not possible to draw a map of residential buildings and infrastructure.

Carlsen believes that previous experience in the war showed that even if Russia could besiege cities, it would take a long time to occupy them.

– This may be a long-term project.

Another challenge for the Russians is that their forces will be forced back to the north, including in Kharkiv. This could erode their supply lines, especially for those attacking Slovyansk.

Ukraine is also receiving some Western materials, something that could change the balance of power, he says.

Other than Hagen Carlsen

In total, the Ukrainians regained more terrain north of Kharkiv than they lost around the Donetsk region, says Gehr Hagen Carlsen.

Why are the cities of Severodonetsk and Slovyansk so important to Russians?

– The Russians said that they wanted to control the entire Donbass, and this meant the Donetsk and Luhansk provinces. This is a little corner of Luhansk, and that’s where they started, says Carlsen.

– We might have thought earlier in the war that they would try to make larger cuts and take all of Donetsk and Luhansk, but they are very far away. This indicates the limited ability of the Russians to walk on the ground.

It does not apply to the cease-fire

Ukraine says there is no doubt about the ceasefire or acceptance of Russian demands in the Donbass region. NTB writes, who quotes Reuters.

The US defense secretary and the Italian prime minister were among those who recently called for an immediate ceasefire between the two sides.

Zelensky’s adviser, Mikhailo Podoljak, repeats that it would not be appropriate for them to agree to any agreement that would mean that Ukraine would have to give up territories.

The chief negotiator says a break in campaigning will only eventually lead to Russia responding more forcefully.

The war will not stop. It will only be seen when paused for a while. Russia will then launch a new, bloodier, and full-scale offensive.

Flight Alerts – Parliament forced to cancel meeting

The plane alert went off over large parts of Ukraine on Sunday, with the exception of the eastern and southern regions, he said Ukrainian Pravda.

The Verkhovna Rada was forced to cancel the meeting and take refuge. In Zhytomyr, there are attacks on the so-called strategic objectives. The railway station in the Zhytomyr region will also be attacked again.
