Police: – Consider whether to close home offices and schools
As severe weather begins to “ingun” Wednesday afternoon, people have reason to consider whether it's necessary to travel outside, the Nordland Police District wrote in a news release.
Along with this extreme weather, winds up to hurricane are expected. High winds were reported in Helgeland, but also in the north of the county. Strong winds of 35-50 m/s inland from southwest and a cyclonic storm is expected along the coast. Along with the wind comes precipitation, which will create the risk of snow and mud avalanches, and create additional challenges for traffic outside, police said.
– Police in Nordland encourage people to watch out for loose flying objects, control traffic in the coastal zone and exercise caution when traveling outdoors. Consider whether staying outside is necessary, says Nordland Police District Chief of Staff Bent Are Eilertsen.
Police in Nordland continue to be in close contact with emergency operators in the county and are making two calls Thursday:
If they have the opportunity to do so, they should consider having a home office on this day. Additionally, schools should consider whether they can keep students home on Thursday.
Those who are slow to drive should do so. Roads and bridges will be closed at short notice.
– Officials recommend that people in the area stay indoors if possible. Follow the advice of emergency officials and check road signs if you must drive, Eilertson says.
Additionally, one should follow the advice and check the status of the transport operators. Ferry routes may be canceled and air traffic may be affected due to weather.
– Before the weather hits full force, every family should consider damage control measures, says Nordland Police District Chief of Staff Bent Are Eilertsen.
