(Elbil24): During the big CES electronics show in Las Vegas in 2020, Sony showed off the Vision-S concept car for the first time. That was before Corona and even the author of the article came. I can also confirm that the car overshadowed everything else Sony showed off during the press conference.

The concept car, which was primarily designed to demonstrate various Sony technologies, received so much attention that the company decided to build on it. After one year it was on Road driving test in AustriaAnd in January, Sony revealed another concept car, suv-en Vision-S 02.

However, making a model car is something completely different than starting large-scale production. So it was expected that Sony will enter into a strategic cooperation agreement with one of the major car manufacturers, and now the news came that Sony is forming an alliance with Honda with the aim of developing and producing electric cars.

The goal is to be the first market-ready electric vehicle in 2025, among other things Insideevs.com.

Of course, Honda is expected to take care of producing the chassis and mechanical/automotive technology, while Sony is responsible for all electronics, control systems, sensors, cameras, infotainment, software, etc.

Although Sony and Honda are two companies that share many historical and cultural similarities, their technological expertise is very different. Therefore, I believe that this alliance, which brings together the strengths of the two companies, presents significant opportunities for future mobility, Honda Motor CEO Toshihiro Mibe said regarding the announcement of the collaboration earlier this week.

Which one comes first?

The Vision-S concept shown in 2020, is equipped, among other things, with two electric motors with a total power of 536 hp, all four wheels can be started and from 0-100 km / h in 4.8 seconds. The top speed is reported to be 240 km/h.

However, it is expected that Sony wants to distinguish itself from the competition in the field of technology, and the cars are expected to be equipped with 5G, lidar and a load of sensors and cameras, which, among other things, form the basis of autonomous driving. Additionally, Sony wants to excel in the cards with its expertise in screens, audio, and entertainment solutions.

It is currently not clear whether the first electric vehicle will be a further development of the Vision-S 01 or 02, but it is not directly excluded that it will be one of them, given the history.

Elbil24 is following development and will provide more information as soon as we receive it.
