During his acting career, Stellan Skarsgård (72) has made a name for himself with a number of lead roles in both Swedish and international blockbusters, such as 1990s “Good Will Hunting” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
To most people, he is probably still best known for his role as Bill Anderson in the “Mamma Mia” films.
The actor is now revealing more details from the musical's film score, but it's also not far-fetched that the filmmakers would have to find a completely different actor to play the charming Swede.
– Completely ridiculous
In a recent interview with Vanity gallery The 72-year-old says he was initially very skeptical about playing the role of Belle in Mamma Mia.
The film is based on a musical of the same name, and naturally requires the actors to learn the dance steps and lyrics. This is what made Skarsgård enter the thinking box.

– Asking me to participate in a musical was completely ridiculous. I can't sing or dance! The Swede says with a smile.
“But I saw that Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth were going to be there too, and they couldn't do either, so it was a bit safer,” he adds.
Skarsgård says he and Firth constantly tried to improve their dancing skills before filming.
-Colin and I were really trying to get better, so we thought it would be a good idea to take some dance lessons. We tried hard for over a month to dance to “Voulez-Vous,” but to no avail.
I found the “bimbo” in you
Despite his doubts about the dance steps and his notes, Skarsgård says that when he realized the role the three “dads” would play in the film, he decided to take it on.
According to Skarsgård, the meaning of their roles is that they have to be the typical attractive “bimbo” you often find in movies.
– In films directed by men, in which men play the main roles, there is always a bimbo. But this film was directed by women, and it had women in the main roles. “So we became the men who became the ‘bimbo,’” he explains.
– The only thing we had to do was look cute and be “stupid.” We were given clear instructions just to have fun. Because if it wasn't, there wouldn't be a movie.
