MINNEAPOLIS (VG) Prime Minister Jonas Kahr Storr was interrupted by anti-climate activists during a meeting with a senator in Minnesota, USA.
They demanded that Norway commit to reducing all exploration for new fossil fuels and to zero emissions.
The activists were kicked out of the hall, but Storr later went out and met them on the street because he thought the debate was important.
– You have good arguments, and it is important to gradually reduce the use of fossil fuels, but I cannot promise a total cut, because it will actually delay the transition to green energy, Storr said.
– I respect that he came out and talked to us, but I’m disappointed that Norway won’t commit to reducing production and stopping oil and gas exploration, activist Jesse Benjamin (28) tells VG.
Storr tells VG that he understands the activists’ frustration, but believes they should participate in the debate in the hall rather than interrupt.
– It was more like a demonstration than an exchange of ideas, but we understand their concern.
