Gatwick Airport, the second busiest airport in Britain, decided to limit the number of flights for the rest of the week, as a result of the Corona outbreak that led to a shortage of staff, according to reports. Telegraph.
It is mostly Gatwick air traffic control staff who are said to be affected by the outbreak, and up to a third of them are said to be infected.
Thus, they will set a ceiling of up to 800 aircraft wings per day, until Sunday.
This means that up to 164 flights will be cancelled. The airport says they will distribute cancellations between different airlines that have flights from Gatwick.
Stuart Wingate, chief executive of London Gatwick, said: “London Gatwick Airport would like to sincerely apologize to all passengers affected by these restrictions.
The airport is expected to announce the flights that will be affected by the cancellation on Tuesday, he said Watchman.
