While TV 2 was preparing for the Elite Series clash between Fredrikstad and Bodø/Glimt, Tarik Elyounoussi (36 years old) announced that he would give up playing football.
He told a Channel 2 reporter: “I can officially say here and now that I have resigned.”
Elyounoussi has an impressive playing career behind him at clubs such as FFK, Heerenveen, Rosenborg, Hoffenheim, Olympiacos, AIK and Shonan Bellmare.
– it's a wonderful feeling. I'm honored that I was able to hold on for so many years. Maybe I could push it a little more, but it's fine to stop when you want to.
The 36-year-old has been without a contract since February 1.
note! At 2.30pm, Fredrikstad plays against Bodø/Glimt. You can follow him on VG Live.
Elyounoussi was an important member of the Fredrikstad side that won cup gold in 2006. He also became league champions with Heerenveen (2008/09), Olympiacos (2017), AIK (2018) and Qarabag (2017/18).
Elyounoussi has 60 caps and 10 goals for Norway. His last international match came away to Malta on 18 November 2019. Norway then won 2-1 after goals from Joshua King and Alexander Sorloth.
